The pea green appliances and better yet, lime green walls. Colors can date a home and some home buyers can’t see the potential by looking at your outdated style.
According to Zillow, these colors don’t sell and have the biggest negative impact on selling price:
· Blue living room -$820
· Yellow kitchen: -$820
· Medium brown, taupe or stucco home exterior: -1,970
· Red dining room: -2,031
· White bathroom: -$4,035
The good news is a wall makeover is relatively cheap: All you need is a can of paint, a good paint brush and your elbow grease of course!
So which colors will give your home a better chance to sell? Here’s some advice from the experts:
The Front Door: Navy
Navy never goes out of style. Paint your front door Navy, as it goes with a variety of exterior colors. According to House Beautiful Magazine, it looks rich and makes a statement. And, it sets off the decorative hardware beautifully.
The Kitchen: Gray-Blue
Soft blue or gray hues sell. According to Zillow, its analysis showed that last year yellow kitchens sold for $1,300 more. But in 2017, the preferences has shifted to light blue to soft gray-blue kitchens, which earn an average premium of $1,809.
The Living Room: Neutral Beige
Zillow says prospective buyers are attracted to light beige, pale taupe or oatmeal living rooms, paying a premium of $1,809 for central living areas with these shades, Also, very versatile with a variety of couches and chairs.
The Bedroom: Blues
Time to get rid of girly pink or sports themed bedrooms. Might be hard for a Red Sox fan to picture himself in a Yankees room! According to Color Wheel Pro, blue symbolizes trust,loyalty,wisdom, confidence, intelligence, faith, truth, and heaven. Blue is considered beneficial to the mind and body
The Bathroom: Pale Blue
Zillow reports that light blue bathrooms sold for $5,000+ more than expected. Customize the mirror by picking one up at Marshalls or TJ Maxx. Even easier, upgrade your stock mirror by adding molding from Home Depot.
The Dining Room: Slate
A sophisticated slate-blue hue brings that extra level of sophistication to entertainment central than a plain, white dining room.
